Cedar Crest Mini Quilt

Mini Quilt Monday - 2023

Welcome to my little quilting corner of the world! For those that may be new, my name is Emily! I am a TN gal to the core, farm raised, wife and mom to one boy, school nurse by day, and quilter and quilt pattern designer in my free time! You can read a little more about me and my story here.

I love that Amanda host Mini Quilt Mondays. I have followed along the past 2 years, and I couldn’t wait to be a part of it this year! I also love that I get to connect and collaborate with another fellow TN quilter! We have worked together before, she tested my first pattern for me, and have been virtual friends ever since! Although we only live about 40 minutes away from each other, we have never met in person. Although, I did meet her look-alike at Bell Buckle Craft Fair this year! I seriously thought it was her and had to ask the lady. I know she probably thought I was crazy, but oh well! I didn’t want to miss out on possibly getting to meet a quilty friend in person!

Cedar Crest Inspiration

Cedar Crest was a church camp that I went to every summer growing up! It was in a remote and rural location in Middle TN, but truly only about 45 minutes from where I grew up! Every summer we looked forward to a week of bible study, fun & fellowship, along with some free time canoeing on the lake, wading the creek, talent shows and olympics! Many new friends were made and we kept in touch mostly through the almost lost art of letter writing. Many of my fellow campers returned as camp counselors during our college years. We also did CRAFTS! Craft days were always fun, and a popular craft was mosaics of some sort.

So the Cedar Crest mini is meant to represent the mosaic crafts we did and a cross representing Christ’s sacrifice and ultimately God’s greatest gift of redemption and grace!

My Version

I made my version using scraps from the Juniper collection by Sharon Holland for Art Gallery Fabrics. I love the nature feel to her designs and colors which was perfect since the block was inspired by my former church camp. And this collection also has a winter vibe that is perfect for December.

The pattern is GREAT for scraps and looks wonderful in any color palate. I look forward to seeing what you create with this little 6” mini block. I turned mine into a mug rug by using a piece of ! I love using oversized mugs for soup, and this size is perfect to put under a hot mug or bowl of soup! Also, it is hot chocolate and apple cider season!
