Joyful Traditions - A special project

When sending a pattern out to testers, it is some what crucial that those testers test the pattern as written. The whole point is to look for errors. However, when a dear friend reaches out to you, checking to see if she can expand on your pattern, you hear her out!! I am open for my testers to have fun with patterns and I want any of my patterns to be individualized by the maker. Abby, of @abbymaed, respectfully reached out to me, after completing the quilt as written, wanting to expand on the pattern and wanted to check with me to see if I was ok with that during the testing phase. After hearing her idea, I loved it and we decided together to not only feature her wall hanging tester version, but add to the story!!

So here is to the wall hanging that dreamed of being a quilt!

Yes, I do include instructions for a large throw version, a 72” square. I have come to have a love for square throw quilts lately. Abby said that when she laid her test version across her daughter’s bed to take some pictures, she heard it wish to become a twin size quilt. Now twin quilts are typically around 70” x 90”. So, the quilt needed a little extra length. Abby made a few additions and was kind enough to share them! I have made a few adjustments, as to respectfully keep her method special to her daughter but I have included a quick way to add some length to the quilt to make it fit a twin.

Make a Joyful Traditions Throw into a Twin:

You will need an additional 3/4 yard of background fabric and 1/2 yard each of (3) coordinating fabrics/colors.

  1. Omit the sashing.

  2. Add a 3.5” x 64.5” strip of background fabric to the right and left side of quilt.

  3. Add a 3.5” x 70.5” strip of background fabric to the top and bottom of quilt.

  4. From three coordinating fabrics/colors: add (1) 3.5” x 70.5” strip to the top and bottom of the quilt for each color. You will have 2 strips from each color, 6 strips in all.

The finished quilt will measure 70” x 88”. Hope you enjoy this fun addition to the Joyful Traditions pattern.
