Deep Roots
This quilt is a pattern written by Jennifer of Penelope Handmade that was part of the Quilter’s Candy Membership in the summer of 2021. It is an absolutely beautiful pattern that Jennifer eventually decided not to release publicly. I am so glad and thankful that I was able to have this pattern.
I love the name of the pattern. I feel like my roots run deep and have always been tied so much to my family and tradition.
I have a stack of old feed and flour sacks from my great-grandmother and grandmother that I had been wanting to do something with. This pattern spoke to me when I saw it and I knew it was the perfect project. Each sack is about 1 yard of fabric once opened up. I did have to combine two different sacks to meet the fabric requirements for one color, but it worked out perfect. This quilt is that much more special to me because of the fabric used and the story that will get passed down with it. A true heirloom!!
